Raffaele Meale (Rome) was one of the founders of the online critical journal Quinlan.it. He is a contributor to various journals and periodicals (including Inland, BlowUp, Eidos) and to Alias, the weekly insert of Il manifesto. He works on the books published by Marsilio related to the Pesaro Film Festival retrospectives. With Enrico Azzano he has edited the two editions of the review “Nihon Eiga. Storia del cinema giapponese”, in collaboration with the Japan Film Foundation and the National Film Library. Again with Azzano he edited the books linked to the event. He has participated in essay collections on Shinya Tsukamoto, Satoshi Kon, Studio Ghibli, Carlo Lizzani, Alberto Grifi, among others. In the activities of the National Film Library he curates retrospectives, and has collaborated with the Asian Film Festival as well as directing the Roma3 Film Festival. In 2017 he curated the retrospective “Apocalissi a basso costo” (Low cost apocalypse) for the Bologna Future Film Festival and, for ANAC, four seminars on Italian genre cinema of the 1970s. He is the author of Fuori i compagni dalle balere. Viaggio nella musica dell’Emilia-Romagna. He is a member of the national council of SNCCI (Union of Italian Film Critics) and of the “Film della Critica” panel.
